Safe and secure community for all

The Maplewood City Council and City staff are aware of concerns regarding changes to federal immigration policies, possible enforcement actions, and the impact to Maplewood residents.

It is part of the City of Maplewood’s' Strategic Vision of Community Inclusiveness that everyone is valued and respected, and that we celebrate our strengths as a diverse and multi-cultural, multi-lingual community.

What you should know:

The Maplewood Police Department focuses on public safety and constitutional protections, not immigration enforcement. Key points of our policy include:

  • Prohibition of Bias: Officers treat all individuals equally, regardless of immigration status.
  • Victim & Witness Protection: Officers do not question victims or witnesses about their immigration status as everyone must feel safe reporting crimes.
  • Detentions & Investigations: Officers cannot detain individuals solely for civil immigration violations.

Balancing Public Safety & Trust

Our priority is community safety. The City of Maplewood does not assist in immigration enforcement unless a public safety threat exists. If an individual poses a danger due to violent or criminal behavior, then we will assist in their apprehension. The Police Department remain committed to upholding the law while fostering trust with all community members.
