Siding permits are required for single-family dwellings, duplexes, and townhomes. If only the soffit and facia are being replaced, a permit is not required.
At least two inspections will be required for this permit. The rough-in inspection will verify materials used and check for a weather-resistive barrier, exterior opening flashing, and kick out flashing.
The final inspection will verify the installation of address numbers, the installation of materials, flashing, caulking and protection of openings, and completion of the job. The siding handout (PDF) has more detailed information.
If a contractor is siding, the city requires the contractor to be licensed with either the state or the city of Maplewood.
