RESIDENTIAL TRASH HAULING
Trash Service
Maplewood contracts with Republic Services for single family residential trash and yard waste collection (refer to the recycling webpage for recycling details). All single family homes with four or more units are included in the city-wide trash service. Townhomes and manufactured homes can opt into the trash service (PDF). Trash is collected once a week on your neighborhood's designated trash and recycling collection day Opens in New Window (Monday through Friday). Setting Up and Canceling Service
Contact Republic Services to set up and cancel service. When canceling service, make sure to schedule your last collection day and cart pick up. Give Republic Services your forwarding address for final billing or credits if warranted. With the trash cart removed from the property, the new owner or tenant can set up their trash service.
Trash Hauling Rates
The City supplies the trash carts for the residential trash service. Republic Services manages the carts and does the billing. The carts come in four sizes and five service levels. Click here to see how the yearly rates are calculated based on the Pay as You Throw contract with Republic Services.

Carts
- Cart size switches or cart damage: Maplewood supplies the trash carts. Republic Services manages the carts. To switch your cart size, report cart damage, etc., contact Republic Services.
- Cart placement: Place carts at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of collection. Place carts behind the curb on snow emergency days.
- Cart storage: When not in service, carts must be stored behind the front line of the dwelling, or in the garage, or screened from view of the street, and at least 10 feet from any abutting dwelling.
Billing
Republic Services does the billing for residential trash service. Bills are mailed every other month (January/February, March/April, May/June, July/August, September/October, November/December) and include an itemized list of service level, cart fee ($.75 per household per month to cover the cost of the City-owned carts), county environmental charge (28%), and the state solid waste management tax (9.75%). Vacation Hold
You can place your trash service and billing on hold for vacations that are three weeks and longer. Contact Republic Services to set up a vacation hold.
Bulky Items
- Republic Services Curbside Bulky Item Collection: For an additional fee, Republic Services provides collection of appliances, electronics, and other bulky items. The cost of collection ranges from $10.75 to $37 (plus tax), depending on the item. Contact Republic Services to schedule the bulky item collection.

- Spring Clean Up: The City hosts a Spring Clean Up annually where residents can drop off bulky items for free or a fee at Aldrich Arena. Check out the City's Recycling and Clean Up Announcement Webpage for updates.
- Fall Clean Up Campaign: Republic Services offers reduced price bulky item collection (20% discount) during the month of October in partnership with the City during the Fall Clean Up Campaign. Check out the City's Recycling and Clean Up Announcement Webpage for updates.
Yard Waste
Republic Services offers a yearly yard waste subscription. The 2026 subscription cost is $153.30. Yard waste will be collected in a 95-gallon yard waste cart once a week from April 1 through the end of November (weather permitting). You are also allowed to place up to five compostable bags of yard waste per week outside of the cart.
TOWNHOMES AND MANUFACTURED HOMES
Townhomes and manufactured homes are included in the City's recycling program, and can opt into the City's trash program.
COMMERCIAL & MULTI-FAMILY TRASH HAULING
Commercial and multi-family residential properties with five or more units and manufactured homes and townhomes that have not opted into the City's residential trash service are required to have a licensed trash hauler Opens in New Window remove trash from the property at least once a week.
