Lodging Establishment Plan Review

New lodging establishments intending to operate in Maplewood must first apply for a plan review. This requirement also applies to existing lodging establishments undergoing remodeling, layout, equipment, or ownership changes. For new establishments or establishments changing ownership, a Lodging Establishment license must be applied for and issued after the plan review has been completed, and before operation can begin.

Applying for a Plan Review - APPLY ONLINE

The Lodging Establishment Plan Review application is available through our Citizen Access Portal at www.MaplewoodMN.gov/ACA. Please note that applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and only after all application requirements are met. Once your application has been deemed complete, please allow up to 30 days for processing. 

The items listed below are required. Documents can be uploaded to the online application or emailed to the Environmental Health Officer at Molly.Wellens@MaplewoodMN.gov. 

1. Application Fee - assessed by staff after review of application. You will be notified when the invoiced fee is available to be paid.
2. Equipment Schedule for each piece of equipment
3. Manufacturer Specification sheet for each piece of NEW equipment
4. Room Finish Material Schedule
5. Room & Window Dimensions
6. Easily readable floorplan to scale, showing the location of: 
   • Sleeping rooms
   • Exits to hallways or outdoor areas
   • Fire escapes
   • Ice machines
   • Laundry facilities
   • Public bathrooms
   • Supply storage areas
7. Room Layout for each type of room showing:
   • Max capacity
   • Bathroom(s)
   • Location of windows
   • Size and number of beds (if multiple beds, spacing between each bed)
   • Location of fire extinguishers, smoke detectors & carbon monoxide detectors
