Garbage
Maplewood prohibits the outside storage of garbage and refuse on any property in the city.
Examples of Refuse
The following items are examples of refuse:
- Appliances
- Bottles
- Bricks
- Cans
- Cardboard
- Cement
- Furniture
- Paper
- Tires
- Wood (not including firewood which must be stored per city code at section 18-33(22))
- Any other household refuse or materials
Weekly Disposal
Garbage and refuse should be disposed of weekly per the city's solid waste ordinance and standards. Check details on the city's residential trash and recycling programs. Yard waste (grass clippings or brush) should be composted or disposed of separate (county yard waste sites or curb side collection through the city's contracted trash company).
Exterior Storage of Junk & Debris
Outside storage of the following items is not permitted:
- Boxes
- Brush
- Building materials
- Debris
- Equipment
- Firewood
- Furniture
- Junk
- Machinery
- Metal
- Refuse
- Scrap wood
- Similar materials
- Tires
All garbage cans or containers must be equipped with tight-fitting covers. Garbage containers may be placed out next to the street after sunset of the day before garbage collection. Garbage containers and any material not picked up by the garbage hauler must be removed from the street by the end of the collection day.
Garbage and recycling containers may be stored alongside or in back of a house or garage. Proper places for storing your garbage container can be found in City Code Chapter 30-3 and City Code Chapter 30-4.
