A Massage Center license is required of any person or company that operates a business that offers or performs massage for members of the public or of a private club.
Exempt from licensure are athletic, lodging, recreational, religious or social organizations that offer the above services, as incidental provisions upon their premises. For this purpose, "incidental" means that the cost of providing such facilities, and any income generated from their use represents less than 15% of the gross revenues generated by the organization at the premises.
Also exempt from licensure are establishments operated by licensed medical (or dental) professionals that offer massage services.
Guidance relating to Massage and Massage Centers is contained in the Maplewood City Code, Chapter 14, Article XX. All license holders are required to be familiar with the provisions of this Chapter and with applicable Minnesota Statutes and federal regulations.
