ADMINSTRATION

State of the City Address
Thanks to all that attended this year’s virtual address on Tuesday. Joe tells me we had more than 120 attendees. The Mayor’s speech was informative and some have said, “inspirational”. I have received numerous emails, phone calls and text messages about how much viewers enjoyed the event. Folks were impressed with the format, enjoyed the human side of the Senior Management Team and happy to hear about all of the positive activities and developments happening in Maplewood. We have much to be proud of as we recognize our accomplishments of last year and look ahead to new projects, challenges and community engagements. Thanks to all involved in this very successful event. I am grateful for the very talented communications team we have. They make it all possible and do an exceptional job of creating such a meaningful event. The event is available on the FB page for the city and Mayor. Here’s the link for the web:

PARKS AND NATURAL RESOURCES

Pop up snowshoe event at the Nature Center
Maplewood Parks and Natural Resources is hosting another Pop-Up Snowshoe event next Friday February 25 from 4:00-630pm at the Nature Center. With the snow forecasted for next week it will be a great opportunity to go “shoeing” around the trails with a fresh coat of snow! Ages 4+ are welcome to come snowshoeing and stop in after for a cup of hot chocolate.

Warming House Season Extended
With the favorable skating weather coming up and the great ice that we currently have, staff will be extending the warming house season by two weeks to February 27 with a modified schedule.

Warming houses are open normal hours on the dates and locations below:
WAKEFIELD & GETHSEMANE: 2/14-2/27
AFTON & 4 SEASONS: 2/19-2/20 & 2/26-2/27

Shout out to the parks maintenance crew for the dedication to maintaining the ice and to the part time staff for their great flexibility with taking on the extra shifts to keep the warming houses open to the public for these extra days of enjoyment!

2021-2022 Maplewood Deer Management Activities Concluded
Due to unsustainably high populations, Saint Paul, Maplewood and Ramsey County partnered with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) USDA Wildlife Services to remove deer south of I-94 this winter.  The goal of 50 deer removed from the South Ramsey County herd was met and meat was donated to underserved residents of Ramsey County, in coordination with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Please call if you have any questions or concerns with next week’s Council packet and the content of the FYI.

Have a great weekend!
