Maplewood
Spring Clean Up FYI
The
City’s annual Spring Clean Up will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, from
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Aldrich Arena. The event provides residents with the
opportunity to properly dispose of and recycle items that are not typically
accepted through their curbside trash and recycling service
Residents are encouraged to bring a food or cash
donation to support Second Harvest Heartland, a local food shelf. For a
full list of items accepted and fees, visit the Maplewood’s website.
City Council and Environmental and Natural
Resources Commission volunteers are needed to assist with
checking in residents
at the entry gate. This is a great opportunity to meet and greet
Maplewood residents, all while helping the environment.

Updates from Staff and Council:
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Tenant Focus Group
Meeting – Rental Housing Licensing Program
This
week staff sent letters to more than 800 apartment units throughout the City
inviting tenants to a focus group meeting to be held on May 15 at 5:30 p.m.
This focus group meeting will be held in the new Wakefield Park Community
Building and will be an opportunity for renters to provide feedback to the City
on what issues they feel are important to housing in Maplewood and what their
initial thoughts are on a licensing requirement. Staff intends to bring the
rental housing licensing program back to Council for its consideration in June.
North End Open
House
On
May 29 the public is being invited to review and provide feedback on the vision
plan for the North End. This open house will take place at the Ramsey County
Library branch in Maplewood from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. and the public will be able
to see every step the Working Group took in developing the vision plan. The
project team will take the feedback gathered at this open house to make
refinements to the final, draft vision plan document. The project team is
tentatively scheduled to make stops at a City Council Workshop on June 10 and
the Planning Commission on June 18 to provide an update on the project. The
final Working Group meeting is scheduled to take place on June 26 and the plan
will then be brought back to the City Council in July to consider adoption.
PARKS AND RECREATION
Summer Nature Walks
(see attachment)
The
Nature Center is offering 3 translated nature hikes this summer - June 7 in
Hmong, July 19 in Somali and August 9 in Spanish. Everyone is welcome to
attend all sessions.
The translations were done by volunteers who are
also helping us advertise within their communities. A big thank you to
Konnie Her, Kayd Ahmed, and Arturo Leyva, for their help translating and
creating the flyers!
