Eligible individuals desiring to become a candidate for City Council are required to file an affidavit of candidacy. The filing period opens on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 and will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

Maplewood City Offices
Mayor Special Election (2-year term)
Councilmember (4-year term) – 2 seats
Councilmember Special Election (2-year term) – 1 seat

A filing fee of $5 or petition with 500 signatures in place of the filing fee must be filed with the affidavit of candidacy. Petitions may only be signed by persons eligible to vote for the candidate named on the petition. A single petition may be used to both nominate a candidate and serve in place of the filing fee.

Public contact will be conducted with public health recommendations in mind. Please plan to file your affidavit of candidacy as early as possible in case of delays. Candidates will have four options to file affidavits of candidacy.

Mail: Your affidavit of candidacy must be notarized by an authorized notary. For locations and hours of available notary services throughout the county, visit rcelections.org prior to the open of filing. We will confirm that we have received your affidavit of candidacy and provide a receipt by email (or post if email is not provided). Please be prepared to answer phone calls at the number you provide in case staff has questions regarding your affidavit.

Appointment with City of Maplewood or Ramsey County Elections: Schedule a 15-20 minute appointment with filing staff following social distancing guidelines and recommendations. Please call 651-249-2000 to schedule your appointment with the City of Maplewood; or 651-266-2171 to schedule your appointment with Ramsey County.

Drop-in visit with Ramsey County: One candidate will be queued to file at a time per social distancing guidelines. You may need to wait in a building services queue until staff is available to serve you. Because Maplewood City Hall is not yet open to the public, drop-in visits are not yet available. Updated hours will be posted on the City of Maplewood website.
